do photographers need insurance

Do Photographers Need Insurance? – FAQ

Public Liability & Public Indemnity Unraveled.

I speak to a lot of photographers, some do have insurance some don't. It all boils down to the line of work to which you are involved in, if you are a simple hobbyist taking a few snaps for friends and family on a non commercial basis then insurance is not required. If you partake in paid work then you will almost always need to have insurance.

Getting insurance isn’t always simple though.

In a market full of money grabbers i would personally recommend approaching brokers with caution. Remember that they only have access to the same tools as you ( Google ) so while using a price comparison site or a broker may get the job done quicker and cheaper than the market average, bear in mind that everybody along the food chain has to be paid and in this case you are the chef looking to offer a cheap healthy option only. If you use either of these methods to obtain insurance then get a quote then go to the insurance provider and run a quote direct with them, you will be surprised at how much cheaper it is to go direct.
